Bayern Munich and Max Eberl willing to do “everthing” to keep Dayot Upamecano

by admin

Dayot Upamecano has been on the cusp of becoming one of the world’s best center-backs for years. However, the Frenchman had notoriously struggled to iron out some high profile mistakes from his game, until this season. Upamecano, like Bayern Munich, has started the season on fire. The 27-year-old center-back finally looks to be at the peak of his powers, hardly putting a foot wrong all season and with less than one year left on his contract, presents an issue for Bayern.

Bayern and Upamecano’s representatives have reportedly reached an impasse in terms of a reported €17m signing bonus, which may be curbed by the addition of a release clause in the France international’s contract.

In an interview with Sky’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich executive board member for sport Max Eberl, has assured that the club will do everything to keep Upamecano.

“Upa has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the world. He went through a phase where he made a few mistakes. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays,” said Eberl.

The interesting point of discussion revolves around what “everything we can” means. According to recent reports, that could be a hint at the release clause, which is rumoured to only activate after the second year of Upamecano’s contract. Or on the flip side, perhaps Eberl is unwilling to succumb to the addition of a release clause in the Frenchman’s contract. After all, what use would the long and arduous negotiation process be if the player is swooped up after just two seasons?

It is difficult to know exactly where things stand at the moment. But surely it would be easier for Bayern to extend Upamecano, a proven and world class center-back, rather than trying to source a replacement in a heavily inflated transfer market.

Bayern Munich had a great win over Bayer Leverkusen and is now headed for a showdown with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Let’s discuss everything going on with the club at the moment on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show. This is what we have on tap:
