Bayern Munich have won all 15 of their matches to start the 2025/26 across all competitions and are in absolutely sensational form under Vincent Kompany. With their 4-1 win over FC Köln in the DFB Poka, they broke AC Milan’s record of 13 wins to open any season in any of Europe’s top five leagues from the 1992/93 season in Serie A and then went on to make it 15 wins from as many matches after beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Bundesliga. To add to the hype, Bayern have done all of this without superstars Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala, who have both been working their way back from serious injury problems.
The footballing world has been taking notice of Bayern’s domestic and European dominance so far this season and they’ve already been pegged as Champions League favorites.
For Maurizio Sarri and Lazio, things have not gone quite as well as they have been in Munich. With a record of 4 wins, 3 draws, ad 3 losses from their opening 10 matches in Serie A thus far, they currently sit in eighth place in the table, 6 points adrift of a top four spot.
After their disappointing draw to Pisa over the weekend, Sarri was pressed on his side’s poor offensive conversion rates, as they were unable to find the back of the net from their 5 shots on target against I Nerazzurri. The Italian manager took the chance to throw some love to Bayern with his sarcastic response. “If you want to see better football, get a season ticket for FC Bayern! Don’t be too strict with us,” he jokingly replied (via Tz).
Sarri will also remember seeing both sides of Bayern from the 2023/24 Champions League round of 16 legs. His Lazio side wone the first leg in Rome, capitalizing on a poor Bayern performance, but were dispatched of handedly 3-0 in the return leg by the German Rekordmeister. Dayot Upamecano’s red card in the first leg teed up Ciro Immobile’s converted penalty, but a Harry Kane brace and goal from Thomas Müller saw Bayern through to the quarterfinals at the time, where they got past Arsenal, only to get knocked out by Real Madrid in the semifinals.
