Bayern Munich’s executive for sport, Max Eberl refused to make any categorical statement regarding a potential renewal of Serge Gnabry. In the final year of his contract, Gnabry is currently in great form for club and country. Stepping up to replace the injured Jamal Musiala, Gnabry has found his form in the second striker role. And the club, while happy, is still watching the 30 year-old closely with regard to their mutual footballing future.
Max Eberl addressed recent questions regarding Gnabry’s future (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“I think Serge has developed superbly under Vincent. His performances are arguments that are good for him, but also for us. His contract will expire next summer. If there are signals, we send them internally, not to you” said Eberl.
Gnabry is one of the top earners at Bayern and in the Bundesliga with an estimated annual wage of €17 million. Going by performances in the previous seasons, any renewal at this point is expected to come with a wage cut. With Gnabry hitting 30, Bayern could also apply one of its unsaid policies by handing out a single year extension. As things stand, the attacker’s form past January and the much awaited return of Jamal Musiala are a couple of important factors that will likely dictate the definite direction this situation would be headed in.
