Bayern Munich’s Wisdom Mike scores at U-17 World Cup

by admin

Lennart Karl has been the talk of the town after scoring two goals in his 12 appearances for Bayern Munich this season. Karl’s performances made him a late scratch for Germany’s U-17 World Cup roster but he did earn a call-up to the U-21 squad for the international break. His fellow countryman and teammate, Wisdom Mike, has only played 17 minutes for Bayern but earned a spot to Germany’s U-17 team.

After coming on in stoppage time in Germany’s 1-1 draw against Colombia, Mike started against North Korea and scored the game’s opening goal in the 62nd minute.

Mike was substituted off the pitch in the 81st minute, right before Germany conceded the tying goal from North Korea’s Han Il-Bok. For the match, Mike connected on 76% of his passes and only lost possession 10 times. However, Mike did lose all four of his ground duels and both of his aerial duels. All that said, it was a strong showing for the youngster.

Tied with Colombia in second place, Germany currently holds the tiebreaker. A win over El Salvador would clinch a spot in the knockout round.
