It’s not just the #42 — Lennart Karl is reminding Bayern Munich of young Jamal Musiala

Bayern Munich is tearing up the Bundesliga, and a precocious youngster wearing the #42 jersey is producing outrageous highlights as fans clamor for more.

Four years after a young Jamal Musiala’s first team breakthrough led to his inclusion in Joachim Löw’s Germany squad for EURO 2020, Bayern has seemingly done the trick again, this time with 17-year-old Lennart Karl. The young winger is producing virtuoso highlights and yes, getting tipped for Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany as well ahead of next summer’s Men’s World Cup.

“He reminds me of Jamal Musiala when he first joined Bayern,” Bayern and Germany legend Lothar Matthäus raved in recent comments captured by Tz. “Karl has that ease on the ball, that creativity, and above all, the courage to try things.

“Lennart Karl could fulfill Uli Hoeneß‘s wish to rely more on homegrown talent again. He has everything you need: technique, game intelligence, and the right mentality…He has to be brought along slowly and not overwhelmed. They did that perfectly with Musiala, and that’s exactly how they should proceed with Karl.”

The key to Karl’s ascension? It might just be confidence.

“He doesn’t seem nervous at all, but plays as if he’s been playing in the Bundesliga for years. That’s a rare gift,” Matthäus concluded.
