Bayern Munich played out a rare poor performance yet managed to eke out a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin. The Bavarians were on the back foot for most of the match and, admittedly, deserved to lose that match. While a draw is much better than a loss, it’s still an unacceptable performance by their standards. Harry Kane said it wasn’t their best game.
”It was a tough game. We expected a battle and a lot of long balls. Many decisions and small fouls went against us today,” Kane explained after the match (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “It wasn’t our best game, but we stayed focused and managed to equalize. That’s football, there are games like today where things go against you. We’ll take the point.”
There will be another international break before the set of fixtures which, rather worryingly, contains a clash with Arsenal and a rematch against Union in the DFB-Pokal. If Bayern were to ensure that such a shambolic outing doesn’t happen again, Vincent Kompany has the whole of two weeks to figure that out.
Bayern Munich hit the road in the ultimate “trap game” situation after big wins over Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga) and Paris Saint-Germain (Champions League) just before an international break.
For any team, that could have spelled danger — and this Bayern Munich squad was not immune.
