Christoph Freund talks Lennart Karl’s big step to Germany’s U-21s

by admin

Things can go so quickly sometimes. By now, one can be sure everyone has read of how Lennart Karl had not played any professional minutes before this season and all. But his status at Germany’s youth teams was also not all too extravagant before this season, given he had appeared in the 2025 U-17 Euros AND was about to be called up to the U-17 World Cup.

Then, suddenly, Karl got a call up to the U-21s. There, he will join the likes of Tom Bischof and Assan Ouedraogo, veterans compared to his own fledgling experience. Asked about this before Bayern Munich’s match against Union Berlin, Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund expressed support for the youngster: “He wasn’t given anything for free, so we’re delighted he’s been called up. We’re happy that he’s involved and hope he gets some playing time — that’s the most important thing,” he specified, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “He’s 17-years-old, the U-21 is already a big step – we’re not comparing him to other players.”

Lennart Karl’s star continues to rise.

Bayern Munich hit the road in the ultimate “trap game” situation after big wins over Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga) and Paris Saint-Germain (Champions League) just before an international break.

For any team, that could have spelled danger — and this Bayern Munich squad was not immune.

Bayern Munich and Union Berlin fought to a 2-2 in a match that reeked of danger for the Bavarians from the opening whistle. Let’s get this started and talk about how this all played out. This is what we have on tap on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
