If Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has any say in the ongoing debate on whether or not the Bundesliga should play league games abroad in hopes of building up its stature and presence outside of Germany, the move will not happen.
Hainer is against playing Bundesliga games at neutral sites within other countries.
“I think that the Bundesliga belongs in Germany. We have an incredibly big fan base here, an incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable football audience – and they naturally want to see Bundesliga teams playing at home,” said Hainer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The debate will rage on, especially as the Bundesliga lags behind the Premier League in terms of revenue generation and revenue streams. Tradition is tradition, though, and many fans would be unhappy about losing home games to other countries where the atmosphere and excitement might not be up to par.
Bayern Munich is en fuego, but watching Paris Saint-Germain deal with the pains of trying to repeat in the Champions League can show everyone how difficult it is to stay healthy, be consistent, and catch all of the same breaks.
All of that is a big theme for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show! We’ve got a strong lineup of segments and some awesome questions from some dedicated listeners. Catch up on it all right here! This is what we have on tap:
