When Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann released his squad for the November international break, a few eyebrows were raised at the selections…and the omissions. The latter involves Lennart Karl, who has burst into the scene. Though very young, the 17-year-old Bayern Munich lad has shown what he can do, but Nagelsmann wants to take a different approach.
”Generally speaking, I’ve always said that I’m not a fan of extremely hyping young players early on,” Nagelsmann explained (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “For me it’s about having transparent communication with the players. There’s Said El Mala, Lennart Karl and other interesting young players. Both have different profiles.”
What the former Bayern coach says next would imply that he sees potential in Karl, but he doesn’t want to jump the gun. “We don’t have many classic wingers who are comfortable with the ball at their feet and who cut inside. Lennart is doing that well at Bayern in the game time he got. But first he has to go through the U-21s and prove himself there. He can play an important role there, which is the ambition of every Bayern player. For now he has to get more Bundesliga minutes, it’s still too early.”
