Bayern Munich star and German national team captain Joshua Kimmich will miss Friday’s match with Luxembourg due to a capsular injury per the DFB website:
Joshua Kimmich will miss the German national team’s final training session in Wolfsburg on Thursday. The captain suffered a capsule injury in his right ankle during training on Wednesday and will be unavailable for Friday’s international friendly in Luxembourg (8:45 p.m. CET, live on RTL ). Kimmich will travel to Luxembourg with the team this afternoon as planned. On Monday (8:45 p.m. CET, live on ZDF ), Germany will play their final World Cup qualifier against Slovakia in Leipzig.
This is not good news, but there is speculation that Kimmich could be ready to face Slovakia on Monday per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia):
Every effort is being made to ensure that Joshua Kimmich can be back on the pitch for Monday’s decisive game against Slovakia.
Kimmich acknowledged the injury on Instagram:
Unfortunately, my workplace for now.
Give everything to get back on the ground on Monday. #believeinyourself 👉🏽😮 🤹🏽 ♂️
The German national team is back in action and has two very winnable games during this international break. With Luxembourg and Slovakia on deck, the Germans should be well-poised to pick up two victories.
Against Luxembourg, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann should be able to play with his lineup a bit, but against Slovakia, Nagelsmann will have to be on-point. Last time around, Slovakia stunned the Germans 2-0 and Nagelsmann will want to avoid a repeat of that flat performance.
