Dayot Upamecano extending his contract at Bayern Munich should be a no-brainer, given he’s the best of the club’s bunch. This happened before the club extended Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musial, and Joshua Kimmich, and guess what? Those three got bumper contracts, and now Upa wants the same:
Bayern already had an agreement in principle with Dayot Upamecano before the contract extensions of Davies, Musiala and Kimmich, but couldn’t finalize a deal back then. Upamecano’s conditions have since changed partly due to the terms the club approved for the other three players.

Given that the 27-year-old Frenchman is just as important to the team, he certainly should be extended. The club, however, is still going on about reducing its wage bill. The rumored pay-cut for Serge Gnabry as part of his planned extension and the imminent departure of some players will free up some wages which, theoretically, will go to Upamecano’s bank account.
