Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano says Vincent Kompany’s influence, self-scouting helped vs. PSG

Despite the weekend letdown in a 2-2 draw vs, Union Berlin, many fans are still enamored with Bayern Munich’s Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain last week.

Playing down a man for a half and keeping PSG contained for so long was extremely impressive. Center-back Dayot Upamecano said that Vincent Kompany’s guidance and his own regular viewing of PSG played a role in helping the squad achieve success.

”I wasn’t starting from scratch; I watch Paris a lot. We knew how high-level a team they were, how they take risks: Pacho, Marquinhos, they press high. The coach insisted that we shouldn’t be afraid, that we should go after them. Before the match, he even told me: “If necessary, you’ll press the goalkeeper,“ Upamecano told L’Equipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

What will likely catch the attention of PSG fans is that Upamecano admitted that he watches the French club “a lot.”

For Bayern Munich fans, that might not be the most encouraging statement, but, hey, what else is Upamecano supposed to do in his downtime…what are you doing?

Watching football…that’s what you are doing.

So, yes, you and Upamecano are pretty much the same…right?

Bayern Munich sputtered into the international break with a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin.

While it was tough watch at times, there is no reason to panic…right? Right?

Right — and let’s talk about why, plus more on the next edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
