It is hard to discern how serious Bayer Leverkusen was about trying to take down Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Playing in a 4-5-1 and ultra-conservative, Bayer Leverkusen never really gave itself a chance to get on track against the Bavarians. As such, Bayern Munich’s heavily rotated starting XI put up three goals (one was an own goal) in the first half to power the team to a 3-0 Bundesliga victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
After the match, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Aleix García could only come to one conclusion.
“Bayern is currently the best team in Europe,” he told Sky Germany journalist Kerry Hau.
García might not be wrong, but the Bavarians will have to prove it on Tuesday in the Champions League against the reigning title holders, Paris Saint-Germain.
That match should be one of the showcase games of the season.
If you want more takes on the match, let’s talk about how it all played out on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
