Bayern Munich executive praises team’s determination to avoid defeat versus Union Berlin

by admin

Bayern Munich was on the verge of tasting defeat for the first time this season before Harry Kane’s 93rd minute goal spared their blushes. The visitors found it difficult to get into their rhythm and ultimately struggled throughout the match. Christoph Freund, Bayern executive, did praise the team for their fighting spirit.

”Given how the game unfolded, it’s a point gained. We knew it would be a difficult match with lots of challenges and set pieces,” Freund said (via @iMiaSanMia). “ We simply couldn’t find our rhythm in the first half hour. Union played very well; they were very aggressive. Nevertheless, we could have turned the game around in the first half – the chance was there.

“In the second half, there were few chances and few highlights overall, but it was very hard-fought. Ultimately, though, it’s a point gained. The team showed a fantastic mentality, scored the late equalizer, and demonstrated their determination not to lose.”

Bayern Munich hit the road in the ultimate “trap game” situation after big wins over Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga) and Paris Saint-Germain (Champions League) just before an international break.

For any team, that could have spelled danger — and this Bayern Munich squad was not immune.

Bayern Munich and Union Berlin fought to a 2-2 in a match that reeked of danger for the Bavarians from the opening whistle. Let’s get this started and talk about how this all played out. This is what we have on tap on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
