Being an up-and-coming player in the age of technology is not easy. With the presence of social media, footballers (both established and budding) are subject to all sorts of comments from people they’ve never met. Wisdom Mike, Bayern Munich’s other 17-year-old rising star, has handled the media hype impressively.
“It doesn’t really put me under pressure,” Mike said flatly (Thomas Deterding from Transfermarkt via @iMiaSanMia). “At the end of the day, I’m here to play football. I try to ignore as much as possible of what comes from outside. I just want to let my feet do the talking.”
That kind of mindset will go a long way in his career; Mike hasn’t talked the talk, so instead he’ll walk the walk. If he keeps this up, then there’s a likelihood that he can become a mainstay in the Bavarians’ first team. As it stands, Mike and Lennart Karl, both youth players from Bayern’s academy, are ushering in a new era where Bayern can turn to their campus and nurture talent instead of paying hyperinflated prices for mediocre players elsewhere.
