A lot of things went wrong when Bayern Munich’s U-19s traveled to Paris to face PSG’s U-19s in the UEFA Youth League, falling to a comprehensive 3-0 defeat. It could have been worse, too, considering Bayern goalkeeper Leon Klanac saved two penalties during the match. But the worst that happened during the match was right back Chivano Wijks’ injury. His subsitution in the 82nd minute of the match was clearly due to injury, but he could still be seen walking off the pitch on his own. Any hopes that the injury was not serious, however, were dashed when Bayern’s official website revealed the diagnosis:
U19 full-back Chivano Wijks suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh during the Youth League match against Paris Saint-Germain. The Dutch youth international will be unavailable for several months and will therefore miss the final two Youth League matches of the year against Arsenal (November 26) and Sporting Lisbon (December 9).
The Dutch right-back had joined the Bavarians in 2024 and, despite some alleged disagreements with his U-17 coach, has impressed many at the Campus with his technique, blinding speed and impressive physique. Hopefully Wijks will come back from this injury stronger than ever.
