Bayern’s Karl will be called up to Germany’s U-21s for first time

by admin

It is incredible to think that he was still playing U-17 football this time last year. Lennart Karl’s meteoric rise sees him set to take yet another step forward. Having not a played a single second of professional football before June this year, Karl’s notable start to the season at Bayern, including a goal within five minutes of his first Champions League start, has seen him begin to get global attention and has earned him a lot of playing time for the Bavarians. But his progress has also been noted by the DFL, according to Florian Plettenberg (and captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Lennart Karl will be called up to Germany’s U21 squad for the first time.

The report was made official and Karl will have several familiar faces with him —

Some might believe he should have been a candidate for the senior team, but it is well worth remembering that he has only played at the U-17 level for Germany so far. He was, after all, nearly called up for the U-17 World Cup just a couple of weeks ago. It is important to give him time to grow rather than forcing him into the spotlight.

Bayern Munich is en fuego, but watching Paris Saint-Germain deal with the pains of trying to repeat in the Champions League can show everyone how difficult it is to stay healthy, be consistent, and catch all of the same breaks.

All of that is a big theme for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show! We’ve got a strong lineup of segments and some awesome questions from some dedicated listeners. Catch up on it all right here! This is what we have on tap:
