Leon Goretzka, second oldest player in Germany squad, has become leader

by admin

How did this happen? Leon Goretzka likely still remembers his young, rambunctious days at VfL Bochum or his progression into a bright young talent at Schalke 04, struggling to find his spot in the Germany starting XI. But now he has become the veteran. He is one of the longest serving Bayern Munich players and, after the most recent international squad was released, it turns out the same is the case for the German national team.

“I’m now the second oldest player, I’ve had to realize that with some shock,” Goretzka admitted in a recent interview with Sport.de, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I’ve experienced a few things in my career. I want to help bring the many young players on board, pass something on to them, and lead by example.”

One does not stay young forever. The important thing to do is to mature with time and adapt one’s role to their age. It seems Goretzka is having no trouble doing that.
