Max Eberl dismisses Bayern Munich’s squad size concerns

by admin

After a somewhat rocky transfer window last summer, Bayern Munich’s board member for sports Max Eberl’s work has been somewhat put into question, with rumors of his position having been in jeopardy due the difficult task of assembling a competitive squad while also reducing the overall wage bills of the team. Considering the expectations of a high-caliber club like Bayern, especially in the Champions League, critics and fans have criticized the squad’s size, fearing an eventual burnout in the latest stages of the season.

However, Max Eberl dismissed this notion.

“I can’t relate to this argument. We started the season with 22 players, and when the long-term injured Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and Hiroki Itō are back, we’ll still have a somewhat smaller squad of 25, but one that is very capable,” Eberl told 11FREUNDE (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

With the team’s efforts having often been hampered by injuries in past seasons, Eberl also discussed how the squad planning involved analyzing the players’ injury records: “When scouting, we also paid close attention to the injury record of our new players. What good is a big squad if part of it is constantly in rehab?”

Finally, Eberl emphasized Bayern’s desire to give youth talents a chance to consolidate into the first team. “We also wanted to make space for young players. It is our club’s premise that we want to be successful while integrating young players,” he concluded.

Through that, we will also provide some information that could help those seeking to make a wager or two.
