Max Eberl remains calm in face of Dayot Upamecano’s expiring contract

by admin

It seems as if, every year, at least one key player is running down his contract. This may be slight hyperbole, but it accurately reflects the frustration of many fans at how Dayot Upamecano is running down his contract, which is due to expire in 2026. Just last year, the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies did the same. Nor does an ends necessarily seem to be in sight.

Speaking after Bayern Munich’s emotional 2-1 win over PSG in the Champions League, the Bavarians’ board member for sport, Max Eberl, was asked about Upamecano. More specifically, the question was about his confidence that the Frenchman would renew, considering his agent’s phone is surely ringing with new offers nearly every day. “It can and should ring. That’s legitimate,” the former Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I’ve often said that we want to do our job and extend Upa’s contract. We’ve clearly communicated that and we’re working on it.”

So there is still not much new to report. As the year nears its’ end, Bayern fans must wonder if these renewals will again drag past the new year.
